Good afternoon,
This week's focus is all about the end of the year. I hope you enjoy it.
I hope you are going to family skate night at Happy Wheels on Friday, May 17 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Class Rosters:
The final weeks of school are approaching. As we gear up for summer, teachers will be creating class rosters. Our vision statement says:
At Presumpscot Elementary School, we strive to be an equitable school with a school culture that is trauma informed, asset based, and celebrates joy and critical inquiry. Curriculum that is culturally responsive, reflective of the world, and provides windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors for our students. A school community where members talk openly about identity, reflect on their own cultural biases, advocate for families, and use restorative practice as the centerpiece for challenging conversations.
Every time we make a decision at Presumpscot, we ask if it supports our vision statement. So, as we create class rosters, we take hours (this is not an exaggeration) to consider all aspects of our students and divide them into two groups. Once the current teachers create rosters, we look at them as a team and make final changes. The end result is a nicely balanced, equitable classroom. It is because of this that we cannot accept parent requests for specific teachers. I am sorry. If you want to talk through this, please reach out.
During the summer, we will get more students who transfer here from other schools. We will add students and recalibrate, if necessary. Due to all of the scheduling constraints, we will communicate with families about who their students are rostered to in the third week of August.
Last Day of School:
Report cards will be sent home with students on the last day of school. Please note that the last day of school is Friday, June 14. Walkers will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, and buses will follow shortly after that.
Community Meeting:
We have two community meetings left. We will have one this Friday from 2:00-3:00 pm. If you have never been to one, and would like to come, please stop by. It is a lot of fun.
