March 15th, 2024 - Presumpscot Chat

Friday, March 15th, 2024

Hello, Presumpscot!

Can you feel spring? Just a few more days, and it will officially be spring. This is going out late this week. I am sorry. It was a very fun and busy Friday.

Grade 5 and MGRI:

Grade 5 hopped on some very cool buses and headed over to the GMRI. What a cool place. The focus of the lesson was on climate change and how that impacts Maine’s fishing industry. They got to view a huge aquarium and measure lobsters. Here’s a summary of this topic:

“How do scientists use models to understand what is happening in an ecosystem? How is the marine food web changing as a result of warming ocean waters in the Gulf of Maine? This curriculum asks students to explore some of the potential impacts and consequences that climate change, and specifically warming oceans, will have on marine ecosystems. As the answers to these questions are not fully understood, this curriculum has students using scientific modeling and data analysis to explore ideas, connections, and potential outcomes of a changing climate.”

Second Grade and the Ballet:

Second grade students hopped on the bus and went to the Westbrook Performing Arts Center to watch the ballet. They watched Portland School of Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty.
