Unit 3 Wind and Water

We will ask the children at the beginning of the unit to see what they know about the topic being studied. We will make a chart like the one below about what we know, and also what we might want to learn about snow.

We will start the unit by reading these storybooks. These would be great books to pick out the library and read to your child at home, or have him or her read them to you!
One Dark NightGilberto and the Wind

Children will be given the opportunity to use a clothesline in the dramatic play area.  The fan created a breeze that added to the experience!

Children will be making clothespin pastures for the farm animals.  This activity relates to Gilberto as he explores his farm and also strengthens fine motor skills and imagination.

Rabbits and RaindropsThe Snowy Day

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!

We will read about snow in The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.  Hopefully we will wake up one morning and discover all new snow outside our windows, just like the character, Peter, in the book.  We will do snow projects in the classroom and even put some snow in our sensory table so we can play with it. The students will also make snowflakes that we will hang around our room to make it feel like it is snowing inside our classroom.

Book Making

BOOK MAKING
This year the students have been writing books. They are learning how a story works and they are making their own books.  Some students are drawing books with just illustrations, some are beginning to add letters to their writing and some are beginning to sound out words as they write. They are learning about many styles of books like wordless picture books, number and alphabet books as well as traditional story books. We will foster many new authors in Pre-K this year!
